Birding Safaris In Uganda
Uganda also known as the pearl of Africa, is a home to over 1000 bird species a figure that represents half of the bird species in Africa. The variety of species in Uganda is attributed to the variety of habitats. These include semi deserts, Savannah, lowland and montane rainforest, wetlands afro alpine and volcanoes.
Uganda has more that 700 forest reserves which also includes the Albertine Rift Endemic area that has 38 species of birds confined Mgahinga and Bwindi National parks. The wetlands of Uganda are know to be a home to over 210 species ranging from the most searched Shoe bill to the Endemic Fox’ Weaver. Other species that are endemic to wetlands include; papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus Canary, Papyrus Yellow Warbler.
Savannahs range from the Richer Fertile Savannahs in western Rift valley, dry thorn scrub regions to the semi deserts. Some savannah region such as Queen Elizabeth has the highest bird list of up to 600 species and it had the highest bird record a day which is about 200 birds a day. The boat ride on the Kazinga channel in Queen Elizabeth is a ride to paradise as you get to see plenty of bird species at the same time. It is exhilarating.
Birding in Uganda for about 10-14 days can enable you see, over 500-600 birds in the most scenic regions of Africa. Include Uganda in your birding trip to Africa and you wont regret your decision.
