UGANDA BIRDING TOURS - 20 DAYS

Day One: Arrival To Kampala / Kampala City Tours

Arrive at the airport to meet our company representative who will transfer you to your hotel in Kampala. Depending on the time of arrival you may go for a city tour in Kampala to visit places like the Kasubi tombs, Uganda Museum, craft centre and many more. Overnight at Sheraton Hotel, Holiday express hotel/ tourists’ hotel.  

Days Two: Transfer to Mabira Forest


This morning you will transfer to Mabira forest, the largest standing indigenous forest in the central Uganda. The drive will take you about 2 hours to reach the forest and then start the bird search. In the forest you should expect birds like the African pitta, purple throated cuckoo-shrike and many more.  After the walk through the forest you will return to Kampala. Over night at Sheraton Hotel, Holiday express hotel and tourists hotel.

Day Three: Drive To Masindi / Walk In the Region


In the morning after breakfast depart Kampala for Budongo forest in Masindi. The drive will take you about 7 hours to reach the Masindi in the afternoon. You will have lunch and then go for a walk in the Nyabyeya region. Overnight at Busingiro tourists’ hotel / Nyabyeya forestry college guest house.

Day Four: Birding Tours in Budongo Forest


Spend the whole day of birding tours in Budongo forest in the Royal mile area. You will carry packed lunch o have a picnic lunch in the forest. Expect birds like the Blue-breasted, sunbirds and many more.  Overnight at Busingiro Tourist Site /Nyabyeya Forestry College.

Day Five:Transfer To Kibale National Park


Transfer to Kibale National park. This day requires an early start. The drive will take you about 8 hours to reach Kibale forest in the afternoon. Overnight at Ndali Lodge / Primates lodge.

Day Six: Morning Forest Walk / Chimpanzee Trekking


In the morning you will go for a walk in the forest searching for birds. The walk will also reward you with primates like the chimpanzees, red tailed monkeys, and baboons. In the afternoon you will go for a walk in the Bigodi wetland. This wetland walk will reward you with wetland endemics like the Masked Apalis, white headed wood hoopoe and many more.  Overnight at Ndali Lodge / Primates lodge.

Day Seven: Drive To Queen Elizabeth National Park / Boat Ride


In the morning right after breakfast you will drive to Queen Elizabeth national park. The park is know to be a home to over 60 % of Uganda bird species and a heaven for your birding tours.  The drive takes about 3 to 4 hours to reach the park in the afternoon. You will then check in your lodge to have lunch and then later go for a boat ride on the Kazinga channel. The launch will reward you will many water birds to include the pink pelicans, king fishers, and many eagles. Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.



Day Eight: National Park Game Drive / Birding tours


With packed lunch you will go for a game drive in the park searching for birds and animals. You will spend the whole day in the park searching for birds. Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.

Day Nine: Transfer To Bwindi Impenetrable National Park


This morning transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest. The drive will take you through the Ishasha sector to have game drive enroute searching for tree climbing lions. You will then proceed and reach Bwindi in the afternoon. Overnight at Gorilla forest camp / Buhoma community homestead. 

Day Ten / Eleven/Twelve: Birding tours In Bwindi - Gorilla Tracking


You will go for birding tours the whole day in Mubwindi sector of Bwindi and then the next day you will spend the whole day walking along the waterfall trail searching for birds. On the eleventh you will spend the whole day looking for birds in the Ruhija section of Bwindi. If you are lucky you might encounter the gorillas during your search for birds. Birds to see include; Crimsonwings, sunbirds, starlings, Illadopses warblers and many more. 

Day Thirteen:Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi


You will have breakfast to transfer to Kabale Lake Bunyonyi. The word Bunyonyi means little birds. The lake was named for its little birds that used to inhabit the region. The birds are still here but they are not as many as they used to be. The place is also a home to large birds like the herons, egrets, cranes and many more.  Overnight at Bushara Island Camp / Bunyonyi overland Resort.

 

Day Fourteen : Birding tours / Nature Walk / Boat Ride


You will wake up for a nature walk along the shores of the lake searching for birds. In the afternoon you will go for a boat ride to the small islands where you will spend the hole afternoon searching for birds. Overnight at Bushara Island Camp / Bunyonyi overland Resort.

 

Day Fifteen : Transfer To Lake Mburo National Park


On this day transfer to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive will take you about 5 to 6 hours to reach the park in the afternoon. You will birds enroute to the Rwonyo region to the park. Overnight at luxurious Mantana tented Camp/Budget Rwonyo Camp (FB).

Day Sixteen and Seventeen: Birding tours in Lake Mburo


You will then spend these two days searching for birds in Lake Mburo National park. You will go for nature walk sand games and also for a boat ride for the wetland endemics. You should expect birds like the Papyrus Gonolek, Malachite Kingfishers, Shikra Goshawks, African fish eagle, African Marsh Harriers a and many more. Overnight Mantana tented Camp/Budget Rwonyo Camp (FB).

Day Eighteen: Arrival Back in Kampala


In the morning after breakfast drive to Kampala to reach in the afternoon. Overnight at Sheraton Hotel, Holiday express, Tourist hotel Kampala. 

Days Nineteen: Mabamba Wetland Birding Tours (The Rare Shoe Bill)


Today we transfer to the Mabamba wetland to search for the rare shoe bill and the wetland endemics. Other species to view include; Madagascar bee-eater, grey headed gull, Malachite and Pied Kingfishers, Winding Cisticola and many more. After we will transfer you to our hotel in Entebbe. Overnight at Resort beach Hotel / Boma house / Tourists hotel Entebbe.

Day Twenty : Air Port Transfer


You will pack your bags to be transferred to the airport to catch your flight back Home.
