MOUNT RWENZORI HIKE - MOUNTAIN TREKKING (9 days)
Day 1 : Drive To Kasese
In the morning, you will have breakfast and then drive to Kasese Town. On reaching Kasese you will go register with the Rwenzori Mountaineering services, and then go shop for food to carry up country. Overnight at Hotel Margherita.
Day 2: Ibanda Starting Point
Have breakfast to drive to Ibanda the starting point, you will get your equipments, get your guides and then hike to Nyabitaba hike(8700ft /2652m). This hike will take you about 5-7 hours to reach this hut.
Day 3: Mountain Hike To John Matte Hut
In the morning you will have breakfast to follow the trail from Nyabitaba hut hat leads to Kurt Shaffer’s bridge to cross Bujuku and Mubuku rivers. After crossing the rivers the proceeding section is a little steep and slippery so watch out. You will then continue to John Matte hut (11200ft/3414 m) and spend the night there. The overall days hike ill take you 7 hours.
Day 4 : Mount Trekking to Bujuku Hut
Leave John Matte to cross River Bujuku and enter Bigo bog. You will cross the drier ground up to Lake Bujuku the overlooks Mt Baker and Speke to the north. You will then walk to Bujuku hut (13000 ft 3962 m) where you will spend the night.
Day 5: Hike from Bujuku Hut to Scott Elliot
Today you will hike from Bujuku Hut to Scott Elliot heading to Elena Hut (14,700 ft /4430 m) the end point for the central circuit. This is also the starting point of the Margherita (16763 ft /5109m) peak climb. (You will need 2 extra days to climb to the peaks). You will then follow the central circuit through the alpine zone of sparse low vegetation to crater lakes and drop to Lake Kitandara hut where you will spend the overnight.
Day 6 To Guy Yeoman Hut
Depart Lake Kitandara hut leaving Democratic Republic of Congo westwards and Megharita peak northwards If it is clear you will see big area of Congo and the famous tropical forests of Congo. You will then walk up to Guy Yeoman Hut (10700ft/3261 m).
Day 7 : Hike to Nyabitaba Hut
Leave Guy Yeoman hut to Nyabitaba Hut. This is a very long journey with deep mud and it involves crossing a river. It may take you about 5 hours to reach the hut.
Day 8 : Descend From Nyabitata to Nyakalengija
Descend from Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija the park headquarters. You will meet your diver there to transfer you to your hotel Overnight at Margherita hotel.
Day 9 : Depart For Kampala
In the morning after breakfast, you will pack you bags to drive back to Kampala.
